Global Connectivity for Space Missions – Swedish Space Corporation’s Expanding Ground Network and the Vision for Orbital Launches from Esrange
At Space Tech Expo Europe 2024 in Bremen, the diversity and collaboration within Europe’s space ecosystem were once again on full display. Among the exhibitors was the Swedish Space Corporation (SSC), a company that has provided communication and ground network services for more than 50 years, playing a crucial role in ensuring mission reliability for satellites worldwide.

In the interview with Aurelian Tomescu and Guillaume Guillermin from LSE Space GmbH, part of the SSC Group based in Gilching near Munich, they highlighted the company’s contribution to European space operations. LSE Space specializes in engineering and operations services for institutional clients such as ESA and DLR, combining strong technical expertise with decades of operational experience.
“We are currently expanding our facilities to not only support suborbital launches, but also enable orbital launches from Esrange, a perfect location for polar orbits,” explained Guillaume Guillermin during the conversation.
This refers to SSC’s major development project at the Esrange Space Center in northern Sweden. The site, already known for sounding rockets and stratospheric balloons, is being expanded to support orbital launches in the near future, an important step for Europe’s independent access to space.
SSC’s ground station network comprises more than 20 locations worldwide, including 11 owned and 10 collaborative stations. The network enables continuous satellite operations, ensuring mission safety, data continuity, and real-time communication. By combining global reach with European engineering excellence, SSC has become a key enabler for space agencies and organizations across the globe.
We look forward to continuing these inspiring discussions at Space Tech Expo Europe 2025 and to gaining further insights into the future of connected space technologies.
