3D PLUS expands its space product line with the introduction of the new IRIS camera family. This innovative product family is based on the latest developments of customized cameras for major missions such as Mars Sample Return (MSR), PROSPECT and Martian Moon eXploration (MMX). By combining the camera head, various optics and mechanical assemblies, the IRIS family enables versatile and complete space camera configurations. With this new product family, 3D PLUS customers can benefit from standard solutions for a wide range of imaging applications: platform or instrument control, rover or satellite navigation and rendezvous, near and far environment monitoring (debris, satellites).
*Depending on optical lenses assembly
Central to this new product line is the CASPEX 4-megapixel camera head, which 3D PLUS has manufactured for over five years and successfully deployed in space projects including SuperCam, LICIACube and SPEXone, such as a standard FPGA design that provides the user with a SpaceWire interface. These solutions integrate the sensor and its electronics with space-qualified optical lenses and a rugged, space-qualified mechanical housing.
The camera head is shielded by a standard 5 mm thick aluminum housing, which provides additional radiation protection for the electronics as well as an efficient mechanical and thermal interface to the spacecraft. Several standard optical assemblies are available to equip the camera for a variety of applications.
The IRIS space cameras are generic products suitable for a wide range of space applications such as scientific imaging, platform and payload monitoring, launch tracking or navigation applications and have already been selected for several missions covering these applications. The space environment design of the various components, in particular the camera heads, allows the 3D PLUS cameras to be used in LEO, GEO or deep space missions and has already been used in qualification campaigns for several missions.
The IRIS camera family will initially offer two standard camera configurations:
The IRIS 8mm Space Camera Mono/RGB is a complete vision camera system for space applications, such as monitoring and navigation for spacecrafts and landers.
The IRIS 8mm Space Camera Mono/RGB consists of an 8mm focal length optical assembly and offers a wide field of view of more than 80° (horizontal and vertical).
The IRIS 8mm Space Camera is a legacy of the MSR Earth Return Orbiter MCAM multi-camera surveillance system developed for Airbus DS, using five cameras with the 8mm focal length lens from the MMX mission for CNES.
The IRIS 11mm Space Camera Mono/RGB is a complete vision camera system for space applications, such as monitoring and navigation for spacecrafts and landers.
The IRIS 11mm Space Camera Mono/RGB is equipped with an 11mm focal length optical assembly providing a 54° field of view (horizontal and vertical).
The IRIS 11mm Space Camera is based on the mechanical and electrical development of the MSR-ERO and reuses the optical assembly from the PROSPECT mission.
